Energy Efficiency Study and Power System Expansion plan, Saudi Arabia

Customer: Aramco Overseas Company B.V., Den Haag, The Netherlands, 2009 - 2010

Saudi Aramco the world's largest oil producing company commissioned the Consultant with a study to develop highly energy efficient technical concepts for power plants as well as integrated power and water plants for the supply of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with electricity and desalinated water. Based on this, expansion plans for the power and water supply of Saudi Arabia for different scenarios covering the period 2010 to 2030 had to be developed under consideration of conventional power plant technology as well as solar power. The overall objective of the study was to enhance the energy efficiency and the rational use of fuels in the power and water sector. Finally, Energy Efficiency Guidelines and Funding Mechanisms for highly energy efficient and renewable technology had to be drafted and recommended for consideration into the future energy policy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
